How To Easily Configure RCN Mail On Mac OS Sierra?

Do you want to setup RCN mail on your Mac Sierra? If yes, then continue reading this post. Though the process is not as simple as it sounds but if you implement the steps carefully, then you can easily get success in first go.



Before starting with the steps, we want to clear that the steps are basically meant for IMAP type account. In these types of accounts, SSL is temporarily disabled. If you want to setup using these settings, then you are good to go.


Adding a new mail account


· Open mail menu.

· Click on ‘new mail’ option from the toolbar. Click to enter details.


Another mail account


1. Go to option which says, ‘Other mail account’.


Account information


· You are required to enter details in the form. It includes Name, mail address, and password.

· Click to log in once you have filled the details.


Server settings


· In the server settings page, you are required to enter the below mentioned things.


  1. ü Username: Enter complete email address in this field.

  2. ü Account Type: Select IMAP or POP. We are preferring IMAP here.

  3. ü Enter IP address in the field where you find information to be entered for incoming as well as for outgoing mail server.

  4. ü Ignore the option which says, ‘Unable to verify account password and name’.

  5. ü Click login now.


Server Identity:


1. Ignore all messages related to server identity. Simply keep on clicking ‘Continue’ option from the bottom of the screen. If you don’t want these messages in future, then download the certificate from the trusted settings.


2. Click on ‘Any app’ option and then on ‘Done’.


You will now Find RCN setup page in front screen. Your email along with other email service providers will be displayed on the screen. If you want, you can change the settings of your email later on.


Further settings:


1. Go to ‘Mail’ followed by ‘Preferences’.


Account details


ü Select RCN from the list of available email services. This you will find on the left side of the screen. After clicking on mail, go to ‘Server’ settings.


Some other modifications which you can do on RCN email are:


1. You will find a box which says, ‘Automatically manage connection’. Uncheck the box. You have to disable this option both for incoming as well as for outgoing mail server. An additional setup box will now appear on the screen.

2. Go to ‘Advanced IMAP settings’.

3. Click on the option ‘Allow insecure authentication’ and tap ‘OK’.

4. Now, coming to the security settings for your account. Uncheck the boxes given next to TSL and SSL. Don’t select any of the boxes.

5. Go to drop-down menu from ‘Outgoing mail server’ settings page.

6. Edit SMTP servers from the server editing list.

7. Allow insecure connection again for SMTP server.

8. Click to ‘Save’ the option.


Your RCN mail is successfully configured on OS sierra now. You can start sending and receiving emails on your email address. Try sending a test mail to your own email address. If you don’t receive it, then get in touch with the RCN support team. They will solve the issue immediately.
